WordPress Hosting
WordPress hosting is a much better idea than free website hosting for three important reasons.
WordPress Hosting – Three Reasons Why Paid Hosting is Better than Free Hosting
When it comes to hosting your WordPress blog, there are are two options available for you: you can use the free WordPress hosting available at WordPress.com or you can host the blog yourself using a paid website hosting provider. A lot of people use the free hosting as their primary website, but if you are using your WordPress blog to advertise your business or for any professional purposes, it is a very bad idea to choose the free hosting. In fact, I can think of three very important reasons why free WordPress hosting is a bad idea.
WordPress Hosting – Control Your Domain
If you are wanting to build a WordPress blog to promote your business or for any professional reasons, it is important to control your domain. After all, which looks more professional to you, mybusinessname.wordpress.com or MyBusinessName.com? It is much more impressive to have a domain with your name or your business name than it is to have a subdomain on a WordPress account. Even with the rising popularity of Facebook fan pages for businesses, it just isn’t acceptable to not have your own domain.
It is very inexpensive to own your own domain, so there really isn’t a good excuse NOT to have a domain. A domain can be registered for less than $10 and website hosting plans start at around $5 a month. This is, after all, an investment in your own business and the expense can be a tax write off as well.
WordPress Hosting – Own Your Own Content
Perhaps you may not realize this, but if you host your website on a free WordPress hosting account, you do not own your own content. WordPress is a business. If they decided to sell their business or simply close their doors one night, then you have lost all your content. If you are going to put all the hard work into creating great content, shouldn’t you be in control of it as well? Plus, why would you want to fill a site with great content when it doesn’t really do YOU any benefit? You are essentially building someone else a great website. Wouldn’t you like to reap the benefits of great content on your own website?
WordPress Hosting – Build Your Own Brand
When you own your own website and you are filling it with great content, you are actually building your own brand. If you use a free WordPress hosting account, you are wasting all that effort. You are, in effect, building a brand for WordPress and not yourself.
To me, this is one of the most important reasons why you should not use free WordPress hosting. There are companies and people out there that spend tens of thousands and even millions of dollars on building a company brand. When you post content to your own website, that is a free method of building your own brand. If you are posting that content to a free WordPress blog, you are essentially throwing away what could be thousands of dollars in free brand imaging.
